Alex-Sander Sztasko
(1944-1999) Born in Ungvar, now in Ukraine, he grew up in Czechoslovakia and moved to Hungary in 1966. Alex was an aspiring and talented artist from a young age. He enjoyed successful exhibitions already at the age of nineteen. He worked for years as a scenic artist and created paintings, sculptures and models. He lived, worked & exhibited in Prague, Blatislava & Budapest. Emigrated to Canada with his wife and son in 1982. Upon moving to Canada, Alex got a position with the CBC as a scenic artist and also exhibited his paintings often in the Toronto area. In 1991 Alex and his family moved to Rockingham where he was deeply moved by the scenery and the people of the Madawaska Valley and Algonquin Park region. He created many paintings and sculptures of the area and in his final years created his well known puppets of local characters. He won 3 art awards in competitions in New York and Toronto. |
